We have officially kicked off the 2024 – 2025 observation season! Our Allsky camera is once again uploading nightly videos to YouTube, capturing the wonders of the night sky. We’re excited to share these moments with you across our social media channels as well.
On August 9th, 2024, the Finnish Meteorological Institute announced on X that the nights have already darkened, marking the start of the aurora season. This is a signal for the potential of spectacular light shows in the sky. Over the weekend, three coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are expected to hit Earth, making the chances of seeing auroras quite high.
On our Allsky website, the KP index is currently listed as high, indicating active conditions in the sky. We hope that the clouds won’t spoil the observations early in the week, allowing us to witness some incredible auroras.
Stay tuned and follow us on YouTube and social media so you don’t miss out on any of the excitement this observation season has to offer!
